The state of Rajasthan is known as the Land of Kings and is the largest state in India. The state was at one point divided into a number of regions which were ruled by a number of different clans notably the Rajputs, Jats and Meenas. This has lead to the state having more than its share of hill forts which one can explore on their Rajasthan tour package: Chittorgarh Fort This is believed to be one of the largest fort in India and was constructed in the 7th century AD. The fort once built was named after the Maurya ruler Chitrangada Mori. The fort stands at a height of 590 feet and spans across 691 acres. The fort was at one point the capital of Mewar but lost its status after Maharaja Udai Singh II was defeated by Akbar. Hence the Maharaja ended up choosing Udaipur as the capital since he believed to be more secure. The fort has 7 gates and is the perfect example of the impressive nature of the Mauryan architecture.
